Bajaj Pulsar 220 Review + Pros and Cons

Bajaj’s Pulsar is the most popular in the 150 or more segment in Indian bikes. Bajaj’s Pulsar 150 was and still is the king in term of sells and profit in this sector. Bajaj Pulsar has some variations according to the engine capacity; Bajaj Pulsar 135, 150,200 and 220. Among these 200 is now discontinued by the company. You can see that the Pulsar 220 is the most powerful star among the Pulsars. In this article we are going to judge this bike: is it worth your money or not?

This Bajaj Pulsar Review is totally unbiased and based upon facts.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 has a mill of 220 cc which churns out 21BHP force max. The maximum torque of this engine is 19NM. You can expect to get a speed of 120-125 Km/hour quite easily (don’t try to do it in crowded city roads though).

The car can give you a mileage of 40-42 km per liter in highways but do not expect that figure in city riding conditions. Day to day city riding will give a mileage of close to 30 kmpl. For a 220 cc bike these figures are very good. But you need have to maintain your bike regularly to maintain the efficiency of the bike otherwise it will eat all your money in petrol.

Design and Build Quality of Pulsar 220

This bike is good looking. The look is sporty and surely attractive. No doubt, this bike is an eye-catcher. The big twin disk brakes add some with its beauty. But the problem is with the rear mudguard. It is not very efficient to prevent the tire from spraying dusts or mud or other nasty things over the pillion’s legs. It is design fault. The rear view mirrors are not spaced sufficiently. A healthy man will only see his own figure in these mirrors. There is a glass window to check oil level which is handy.

Is it Comfortable to Ride?

The rider will have a sporty and ergonomic sitting posture while driving. There is a split seat sit which lets you sit with relax. The bike is very comfortable to ride. A long drive of 3 to 4 hours does not give you pain on your back like most of the bikes. The suspension system filters out the vibration before reaching to you.

Security

A 220 cc bike can be very dangerous, if not driven with care. The powerful Pulsar 220 is equipped with multiple sensors to give the rider maximum protection. If your bike bends more than 60 degrees the engine will be stopped immediately to avoid major accidental events. The grips of the tires are excellent which response very well with the breaks. Tires are tubeless which gives you much protection from leaks. The bike is equipped with two huge disk brakes. The bike has a weight of 152 Kg which is good for the rider’s security, because a low weight bike tends to skid more in high speed. The rear view mirrors are too bad. These have not spaced out appropriately and so it is difficult get a good rear view, sometimes it can be quiet dangerous.

Headlight and Sensors

The headlight of pulsar 220 is a powerful one. Like a searchlight it flashes the road on night and makes it visible with all its bumps and holes. There are many digital controls in this bike. The blinkers need not manual switch offs. There is an oil checker sensor, battery and oil temperature checkers too.

Some Bads

Despite of being a superb bike Bajaj pulsar 220 gets some negative points too. The engine gives some unpleasant noise in full rpm. It is not very smooth. There is also a little doubt about the engine’s performance after 3 or 4 years. It is because Bajaj’s engine is not as good as those made by Honda. The gear box is also not very top notch (another common Bajaj fault ).

Final Words

Bajaj 220 is a very stylist and powerful bike. You can buy it for all the digital control and power it gives you in a handsome package. But if you want to have a bike for a long time with minimum maintenance then it is not for you. Bajaj Pulsars are not very good for a long period. You may also get a lower resell value of your Bajaj than a Hero Honda or Honda. Go for it if you prefer to change your bikes quickly and want good looks with power.
